It's my name but Barolo is also a delicious red wine from Piedmont (a region in the northwest of Italy bordering on France) and is 100% made from the grape Nebbiolo. Barolo is normally a wine for cellaring–often ten years or more.
Barolo is originally from Arizona and is one of the four original beer burros (aka Dinero) who started the entire beverage burro trend in 2009 with Haul N Ass Productions https://www.haulnassproductions.com/about/ Barolo moved to Colorado in early 2021 and has been living his best life and enjoying his work at the many beautiful venues in Colorado. He lives in a very special barn with the best care and a herd of donkey friends since donkeys live happily with other donkeys and feel most safe and protected within their herd. His paddock mates have many skills like cart pulling, trail riding, and pack racing, but Barolo has only ever worked as a beverage burro. He really loves people and parties and has known it his entire life. He has been ethically treated and has had the best care, and we are so proud to have him as part of our family here in Colorado. He pretty much prances around his pastures with his friends and has a super easy life and is always super happy to go out to a special event where he will get even more attention and love! He has a wonderful farrier who cares for his hooves and the best vet in the world to look after all his care. You can expect Barolo to be dressed in an upscale and tasteful manner always mindful of elevating the status of the humble donkey. We hope you will love him as much as we do!
The term donkey and burro refer to the same animal. Burro is the Spanish word for donkey. Our burro, Barolo, is a smaller American Standard size donkey-about 11 hands-or 44" at his shoulder.
You can expect Barolo and his handler to arrive at your location at least 15 minutes prior to the designated start time to meet with your event coordinator. He will be well groomed, having had a warm water shampoo bath earlier that day, and he will be appropriately outfitted in his best wedding and event couture. You can also provide any decorative props that enhance your theme. Additionally, his friendly handler will accompany him and be available to answer burro questions, assist in taking photos, help your guests meet Barolo, and, most of all, hand your guests beverages!
Technically a standard size donkey can carry half its weight, but we ask Barolo to carry far less than that. At the beginning of the night when Barolo is first loaded up with his treats, beverages, and coolers with ice, the weight is at the most 45 pounds. Considering the packs are extremely comfortable and Barolo is very strong (and weighs about 400 pounds) the amount of weight the burro is packing is negligible.
Barolo lives with a herd of very friendly donkeys in Parker, Colorado. He travels to venues within about a thirty mile radius without any additional transportation fees. In general, we keep his travel radius limited to about fifty miles or so since we don't want Barolo to experience any travel stress, but please ask if you are unsure, as it really depends on location and traffic. He gets so excited when his beautiful new trailer pulls up because he knows he's going to a party! We choose to keep his bookings close to home since we are very particular about his health and happiness. We want him to be refreshed and happy for your special event. Barolo's health and happiness is the number one priority for our family.
Barolo works from May through September. We book events during this time because the weather conditions are favorable for his comfort and the safety of his trailering. He enjoys the rest of the year relaxing with his herd playing in the pastures and paddocks, and doing some footwork in the arena!
Absolutely! While Barolo has packed everything from small wine kegs, tequila barrels, wine and champagne bottles, he also can carry water, soft drinks, snacks, flowers, wedding gifts, party favors, and even marketing materials-it's up to you as long as it's not too heavy.
We do not sell alcohol, we simply serve it. The venue or client provides the beverages. Our handlers are Colorado Responsible Alcohol Beverage Training certified. Barolo comes equipped with a state of the art pack saddle which allows him to comfortably carry two 28 quart plastic Coleman coolers. Ice and beverages are carried inside these coolers. Soft drinks, water, snacks, and other items also can be distributed by Barolo's handler.
We are fully insured with a General Commercial Liability policy which includes host liquor liability so you don't need to hire an additional bartender from the venue for beverage service with our donkey. Our donkey handlers are also Colorado Responsible Alcohol Beverage Training certified. Barolo is very gentle and he carries a very discreet item under his tail called a “Bun Bag” so if the need arises (which it rarely does at events) he is able to make a deposit in a contained, unseen way.
Not at all! After each photo is taken we make sure to reward him with a treat for his patience and good behavior. Barolo looks forward to photos because he knows a treat is headed his way after the shot is taken. Plus he thinks he's a supermodel, and, quite frankly, so do we. As soon as he sees a phone come out, he starts posing-he really loves the attention!
When you book Barolo you are also getting two certified and insured servers/handlers. Plus, Barolo carries 2 coolers which means fewer trips to reload, and more time with your guests! Not just a photo op, Barolo is also like having an extra bar at your event.
