The California grapevine bird nest. The oversized nest has elements of an oriole nest while the wrapped water tubes are reminiscent of the beloved swallow nests of San Juan Capistrano-only very skinny and vertical. Or perhaps the nests of mud wasps? The interpretation is up to the viewer. This unnatural combination of distorted natural elements invites tension and interest.
This abandoned bird nest, overrun with dying flowers, represents the Japanese aesthetics of Wabi-Sabi-the impermanence of beauty while peacefully accepting the natural cycle of growth and decay.
Disrespectfully decorative-these flowers are seeking out life and light in every possible way while converging on a growing point next to the container.
